Grassroots Northland Farmers' Market

Northland Drive NW and Northmount Drive NW
Calgary , Alberta T2L 1W3

The Grassroots Northland Farmer's Market was started in 1992 by three women in the community with a hope to raise money for environmental issues. They successfully ran the market each week for 15 years. The Grassroots Skater's Foundation was given the good fortune to be able to take over this market in 2009 and have made it even bigger and better.

The market has been at the same venue, Northland Village, for the entire time it has been in existence although it has had to move around the parking lot a bit over the years. It has earned valuable support from the mall and associated retailers as a "locator" and customer draw. The market can support up to 66 individual vendors and easily has 175 to 400 visitors per hour enjoying the market on Tuesdays. The market had 44 fulltime vendors for the 2010 season, ranging in size from small to large and offering a wide variety of choice in fresh fruit and veggies, meats, plants, soups, baked goods, honey, wine, pizza, breads and crafts. We had no room to spare during the 2010 season with a waiting list of vendors to get in. We expect the 2011 year to be every bit as successful.

The market runs 17 weeks, every Tuesday, from early June to the end of September. This year the dates are June 7th to September 27th. Our market is a "rain or shine" outdoor market and it is also an Alberta Approved Farmers' Market. As an approved market we adhere to rigorous standards of practice and quality.
